Useful little weekly update / round-up of the global media, entertainment and technology industry from IBC here:

Main takeaways:

- Channel 5 and Comedy Central to join BritBox offering hundreds of hours of British entertainment and comedy. BritBox will be "very different, exciting and distinctive to Netflix or Apple TV+," according to executives when it launches in the coming months.

- Sports fans sticking with pay-TV. 90% of fans who watch sport on a regular basis are still subscribed to pay-TV, according to research.

- Disney+ takes US pre-orders. Launching officially on November 12th, Disney is allowing customers in the US to sign up for its anticipated new SVoD Disney+ now. Users can sign up for the the $6.99 monthly subscription or $69.99 annual subscription for the basic package.

As the panels at IBC2019 put it, new platforms, niche content and disruption is forging a "golden age of creation". Huge budgets, the importance of growing the content portfolio and getting smart in how platforms attract talent and adapt to the evolving market are all factors in this new age.
